Saraswati Puja Vidhi (Basant Panchami)
Basant Panchami is celebrated on Magha Shukla Panchami. It is the premier day to worship Goddess Saraswati, the deity of knowledge, music, and arts. Hugely celebrated in Eastern India (Bengal, Bihar, UP). Students place their books and instruments at the puja altar.

- Saraswati idol or photo
- Yellow flowers, yellow garland
- Yellow clothes / yellow dupatta
- Books, pen, musical instruments
- White sandalwood, akshata, kumkum
- Milk, sweets (yellow laddoo)
- Curd, honey
- Lamp, incense, camphor
- Ink and inkpot (for Vidyarambh)
📋 Puja Procedure — Steps
Step 1: स्नान एवं पीला वस्त्र
Bathe in the morning and wear yellow clothes. Yellow symbolizes spring and Saraswati.
Step 2: सरस्वती स्थापना
Install the Saraswati idol on white/yellow cloth. Place books, pen, and instruments in front.
Step 3: षोडशोपचार पूजन
Invoke with "Om Aim Saraswatyai Namah." Offer sandalwood, akshata, yellow flowers, incense, lamp, and naivedya.
Step 4: विद्या-आरम्भ संस्कार (बच्चों के लिए)
Young children write their first letter on this day — write "Om" or "A" on rice/akshata. This is the Vidyarambh ceremony.
Step 5: सरस्वती वन्दना एवं आरती
Recite "Ya Kundendu Tusharahara Dhavala" shloka. Sing aarti. Distribute yellow laddoo prasad.
